LAWRENCE READY TO MAKE A BIGGER IMPACT

6’7” forward Elliot Lawrence is set to continue his stay with Derby Trailblazers and his education,
as he embarks on the second year of his degree in Business Management and Marketing at the
University of Derby, who remains a key partner of the club.
Lawrence is a graduate of the Trailblazers Academy who featured off the bench for the last two
seasons, as well playing a much bigger role with the D3 Men’s team. He made six appearances for
the D1 team last season, averaging 1.8 points and 1.7 rebounds in 6.7 minutes per game and after
working hard over the summer, he’s hoping to increase those numbers:
“I’m excited to take on a bigger role this year and to play against bigger tougher opponents in front
of the Derby fans. I’ve had the last few years to learn the pace and physicality of the league and
my goal is now to impact and contribute every time I play.
“I would describe my game as composed; I like getting to my spots and get efficient looks at the
basket, I love shooting and I also like to finish inside and block shots on the defensive end.
“I can bring height and shooting to the team, giving players like Rob [Marsden] and Mo [Walker]
more room inside to go to work whilst being an efficient scorer from both inside and out the arc. I’m
also extremely excited to see what the BCB has to offer and my goal this year is to help win some
silverware for Derby,” he said.
Head Coach Kyle Henderson is excited to have the big man back on board:
“Elliot has been a part of the Trailblazers family for many years and has followed a similar pathway
to Charlie Brown in a sense. I coached him when he was a junior; I coached him when he played
for the Men’s second team and like Charlie, he chose to stay at Derby rather than trying to further
his career at an American college.
“It’s therefore really nice to see him go full circle, partly because I get the chance to coach him
once again and see how he progresses at the new BCB level. I’m sure he has the potential to
improve over the coming season and it’s really good to have him back on board, because he’s a
great guy with great family morals and a great personality,” he said.
The new season gets underway with the group stage of the BCB Trophy over the weekend of
20th/21st September, but the first chance to see the Trailblazers in action comes as they host
Barking Abbey in a pre-season game at 5:00 pm this Saturday at the Clarence Wiggins Sports Centre.
