TRAILBLAZERS SIGN UP TALENTED YOUNGSTER CASEY BURR

TRAILBLAZERS SIGN UP TALENTED YOUNGSTER CASEY BURR

Derby Trailblazers have beaten off stiff competition from several other clubs to retain the services
of reigning EABL North Conference MVP Casey Burr. The sixteen-year-old received special
dispensation to play in the competition last season, despite still being just fifteen years old.

Burr wasted time in proving age was no barrier, by dominating the league as well as representing
England at U15 level and GB at U16 level in the Eurobasket tournament in Macedonia.

Head Coach Kyle Henderson says he can’t wait to see how well he continues to develop:

“Casey has put a tremendous amount of work into his game since he’s been with us. He’s a
humble and hard-working person who just wants to get better and he’ll do something each and
every day to get himself that little bit better.

“I’m not surprised to see the success he had last year and it’s really good to have him on board
with the BCB team this year. The thought going into it is that he’s going to learn an awful lot from
the experienced guys we have on the team who will function as mentors in terms of helping his
development.

“Playing against stronger players is only going to benefit him, so we’re really hoping it will be a
good move for him and for the club. I really believe he can contribute at some level and he’s
another great guy to have around and another person who really loves the club, which is why he
decided to stay with us, despite having received plenty of interest from elsewhere,”
he said.

Burr played a total of 109 minutes across seven games in the 2025 U16 European Championships,
averaging 2.9 points off the back of 50% floor shooting and 70% from the free-throw line, as well
as adding 3.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists.

In the 2024/25 EABL season, he averaged 21.9 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.1 steals
and the 16-year-old is now keen to test his abilities at BCB level as well as continuing to improve
his game within the Trailblazers Academy:

“It was an honour to be named the MVP of the EABL last season and the award really means a lot
to me. I had a year of hard work, and I’m now excited for the opportunity to compete for it again
and to be able to suit up in the BCB.

The award was a huge boost for both my confidence and hunger, because it shows I can compete
with players no matter the age. It also showed me that hard work pays off which in turn motivates
me to work harder for future success.

“Choosing to stay in Derby was an easy decision because of the access to high level coaching and
education, as well as being able to compete with professional players multiple times a week and
learn from them.

“This season, I see my role as continuing to develop with the BCB squad so I can positively impact
the team and help towards team success, both offensively and defensively. I want to keep
developing as an individual, as well as understanding my role within the group and making an
impact in the league,”
he said.

The new season gets underway with the group stage of the BCB Trophy over the weekend of
20th/21st September, but the first chance to see the Trailblazers in action comes as they host
Barking Abbey in a pre-season game at 5:00 pm this Saturday at the Clarence Wiggins Sports Centre.
