The first season of British Championship Basketball has seen a plethora of British talent impress and wow crowds across the country.
And with the Playoff final (May 3) and All-Star Game (May 10) wrapping up an unforgettable campaign, the league is delighted to announce its inaugural 2025-26 BCB British Team of the Year, as voted by the head coaches and board of the BCB.
Victor Olarerin (Aldermore Reading Rockets)
Having spent half of last season as Reading’s sixth man off the bench, Victor Olarerin seemed to flourish as a starter in the latter part, leading the Rockets to a treble in NBL Division 1. This season, the Londoner has started all 28 games and led his side with 18.9 points per game on 46 percent shooting, along with 5.5 rebounds and 2.1 steals. His masterpiece was a 51-point barrage against the Essex Rebels back in October. Most importantly, he guided Reading to a BCB league title.
Zack Powell (City of Birmingham Rockets)
Zack Powell has been a key factor in the City of Birmingham Rockets’ success this season. He was part of history, as his 18 points helped his side win the first-ever BCB title – the Trophy win over the Yorkshire Dragons – back in March, and he has led the team to third place this season, by averaging 18.6 points per game, going 46 percent from the field and 30 percent from beyond the arc.
Jordan Spencer (Milton Keynes Breakers)
The evergreen Jordan Spencer was superb all season long for the Milton Keynes Breakers, helping them to fourth spot in the league and reaching the semi-finals of the playoffs. Spencer started all of his 26 games this season, with minor injuries sidelining him for two of those. The MK-based guard averaged 16.4 points, 6.3 rebounds and 7.4 assists per game with a Valentine’s Day triple-double or 17 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists, a particular highlight.
David Ulph (Yorkshire Dragons)
David Ulph, aka Mr Double-double, has been a rock for the Yorkshire Dragons front court this season, with averages of 12.3 points and 14 rebounds per game. Ulph amassed 19 double-doubles in the league, more than any other player in the BCB this season, with a 29-point, 22-rebound performance on the league’s opening day against the Newcastle Knights his season-best.
Sam Trunley (Newcastle Knights)
Sam Trunley has had to adjust his role with the Newcastle Knights throughout the season, starting 17 of his 27 games played, but has effortlessly slotted into whatever role he has been required to do, and has been one of the key components in the Knights’ rise to second place in the league, helping reach the playoff final. He took on average eight three-pointers per game and shot 41 percent, en route to 18.4 points per game.
