Newcastle Knights guard JaRon Thames has been named British Championship Basketball’s Player of the Year after finishing as the league’s leading scorer, capping off a remarkable individual campaign.
The American standout delivered a sensational season, averaging 25.9 points, 7.8 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.6 steals per game.
"It’s a blessing to be recognised for an amazing season," Thames said when being told of his award.
"Shoutout to my teammates and coaching staff for believing in me."
His all-around performances made him one of the most consistent and dominant players in the league, regularly filling the stat sheet and leading from the front.
Thames recorded seven double-doubles over the course of the season, with his most eye-catching display coming on November 29 against Essex Rebels.
In that game, he poured in 41 points and grabbed eight rebounds while playing all 50 minutes of a gruelling double-overtime contest, underlining both his endurance and importance to the team.
What further sets Thames apart is his durability and mental toughness. He led the league in minutes played, averaging 38.5 per game, and was the only player in the BCB to surpass 1,000 minutes this season, finishing with a total of 1,079.
He will aim to cap it off with a Playoff title on Sunday against the Aldermore Reading Rockets. You can buy your tickets here.
