Victor Olarerin’s relentless downhill attacking style and exceptional intensity have energised and inspired his Aldermore Reading Rockets team-mates and fans throughout the entire season.
As a result, it has earned the Londoner the award of the British Championship Basketball’s British Player of the Year, as voted by the BCB’s head coaches and board.
It marks Olarerin’s third end-of-season award, as earlier this week the electric guard was named to the BCB British Team of the Year and the BCB Team of the Year.
“I’m truly honoured to receive the BCB British Player of the Year award,” Olarerin said.
“It means a lot to be recognised, especially considering the level of talent in this league. I thank God for giving me the strength, guidance, and opportunity to be in this position. Big thank you to my team-mates, coaches and everyone who has supported me along the way.
“This is a shared achievement. I’m looking forward to building on this and finishing the season strong.”
Olarerin started all 28 games for the Rockets this season, leading the team with 18.9 points per game on 46 percent shooting, while also contributing 5.5 rebounds and 2.1 steals.
His standout performance came in October, when he exploded for 51 points against the Essex Rebels. Above all, he played a key role in steering Reading to the BCB league title.
He will look to add yet another accolade to his already stacked cabinet when he and his Reading side face the Newcastle Knights in the BCB Playoff final at Leeds Beckett Arena on Sunday at 3 pm.
